How to Remove Wax from Fabric- Simple instruction using hot iron. to removeOne of the things about doing art is that it can be messy. Trust me, I do my best to eliminate the mess. And I always try to wear my apron. But occasionally, I just mess up. It happens.

A few weeks back I got wax from our Phoenician Batik Lesson all over my new black sweater. I won’t go into how it got splashed but lets just say I can be a little careless sometimes, especially when working furiously to get things ready for class, and I didn’t think first before testing to see if if the wax was ready and splash!

Now,  I had wax all over the shoulder of my new sweater. But wax really isn’t hard to get out of most fabrics. Here’s the quick and simple solution.

How to Remove Wax from Fabric

How to Remove Wax from FabricHeat your iron. Get a piece of cloth or material you can throw away after.  Place the scrap piece of cloth over the splattered area and then iron over that. When you do this, the wax melts into the cloth between and lifts the wax out of your new sweater, or whatever.

fabric absorbs the wax

Note: It’s always the best idea to test first in an inconspicuous area. All fabrics will react differently.

It’s a really easy, simple solution- and it works!

Making good Goals- January Resolutions
And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart. Luke 2:19
I never really thought about it before but in order for  goal to work, you have know how to write good goals. When I make my goals I try to keep these 3 things in mind:

Goals must be measurable.
In other words you have to be able to quantify the way in which the goal will be met. For example, instead of saying I want to become a better cook say I will improve my cooking by trying a new recipe each week. That way you can measure your progress.

Your goal should have times and dates when applicable.
For example, I will build the new fence by such and such a date. This way you’ll be more likely to reach the goal if you set a time limit to accomplish the work by. Even if you don’t make it you’ll probably get closer than without one.

Your goal should be realistic and attainable.
Saying I will loose 15 lbs in a month just isn’t attainable. So just make sure that whatever you are setting out to do it’s being honest and realistic. The last thing you want to do is set yourself up for failure! Be sure to set goals that will build you up and help you see all that your accomplishing.

And Now My Goals for January.
1. Revise and Publish my School of Mary Adoration Booklet.
2. Exercise 3 times a week for 20 min. Begin each day with prayer. (These are together because I will do my daily bible reading from my Kindle Fire while using our elliptical machine.)
3. Get the homeschool routine back up and running.

What are your goals this month?

Perhaps one of your New Year resolutions is to get back to a meal plan. In that case, I hope this Meal Planner can be as helpful to you as it is for me.

Over the years I have tried many different types of meal planning but i like this method the best. The reason it works best for me is that this planner allows me to plan the way I want each week. It’s flexible. I need that because I love variety. The 4 page PDF contains:

{listed in order of page}

It consists of four main pages:

  • Inventory- Step #1

I always try to use up what I have in the house left from last weeks groceries. So I first take inventory, see what I need to use, and then make my plan for week accordingly.

  • 7 Day Meal Plan- Step #2

With the leftover items I create a plan for what to prepare for each meal of the day and snacks too! This page is covers each day of the week. I usually plan meals on Thursday because I go grocery shopping on Friday, but you can do it any day that is best for you.

  • Grocery List by Category- Step #3

This page is to list the items I need to buy at the store. I have ordered them by most common categories for isles at the average grocery store to make shopping a breeze. You know your store so you can make adjustments if needed.

  • Grocery List by Store- Step #4

Lastly, I added a place for me to list things I get from other stores. If your a bargain shopper, you know that some deals you may find at certain stores. I hang this page on my fridge and list items I need by the store where I get them; as I  think of them throughout the week, I add them. Ideally, I shop just once a week getting what I need because I have thought of things through out the week.

I like to do price matches whenever I can at Walmart. I can find my weekly list here: Price Matcherz. So I usually use this page for Walmart and any other stores I should go to.

You may find that meal planning takes a bit of time out of your week. For me anywhere from 30-45 min. each week. However, the rewards really pay off. When I stick to my plan I don’t have to think about what to make and never have to do a last minute run to the store. I also really believe this saves money, mainly because I have already thought about what to make so I can start dinner early, which helps us avoid having to eat on the run or get dinner out.
