Writing homeschool curriculum reviews has been a big part of my blog efforts. Why? Because we can benefit from what each other already know about a homeschool curriculum and that information can help us get to finding a “good fit” for our homeschool program sooner. Things I always include in my reviews on top of the obvious, what’s inside, is information on how I used and adapted the program to suit our unique homeschool experience and journey.

Every homeschool is unique. So how DO you know if a curriculum is suited to you? Keep these things in mind when choosing curriculum:

Your teaching style and interest. This usually comes naturally and we usually select a program based only on this criteria. Don’t stop there.
Your child’s learning style. You must think about how your child learns and then ask yourself if the program will be an aid to them.
Your goals. If you don’t have goals written before choosing your curriculum you really should. It’s my belief that books and materials are just tools but that ultimately YOU are the teacher. If you choose curriculum before you write your goals and objectives you are sure to end up letting a curriculum rule your homeschool.

Apologia Reviews

Apologia’s science is very popular. We have had a wonderful experience using Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day with our Homeschool Co-op. We met once per week and had a full day program beginning with prayer in the morning and consisting of three class periods during the day to include a lunch and a recess. How your co-op should be set up depends on it’s size and purpose. We used the same text for all grades and covered the same chapters at home and together at co-op each week.
