Have you ever had someone you love get lost? To what length would you go to melt their cold heart? And to what extent would you travel to take the splinter of glass from their eye?

We recently saw the movie Frozen. It was whimsical, sweet, and good-natured with amazing music. While the movie is nice, and I have to give it credit for it inspiring us to read The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen in our homeschool, it is a shadow of the book at best. While the movie is more romantic, still keeping the theme of sacrifice, the original story is very Christian.

Andersen’s language is so beautiful and precious- almost holy. His imagery touches the heart and “warms the soul”. Anyone who has loved someone who has been lost, and would go to any length to rescue them, will understand the very crux of The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen.

We loved this story of redemption so very much. It brings to life new hope that any soul corrupted and gone cold can be warmed by love and once again gain clear sight.

So very deeply did this story warm my heart that I couldn’t resist making The Snow Queen copywork. I carefully selected parts of the story which I felt were most beautiful in language and meaning. Please enjoy …

He created  these line drawings especially for this copywork and my upcoming  Wizard of Oz unit study. The quotes were also selected as both memorable parts of the story and special highlights for each character.
