Use one of the two Short Story writing graphic organizers in the pack for Oz Activity #10. Have your child write their very own fairy tale just like the Wizard of Oz today! Or simply use them for another writing project!

The 4 page packet includes these graphic organizers:

  1. Short Story Map
  2. Short Story Web
  3. Venn Diagram
  4. Compare and Contrast Paper

They are basic and can be used for any topic. I created them when I realized my 5th grader needed a little help with organizing his writing. I needed something simple, a framework for him to get started. After all, How would Dorthy have ever found the Emerald City with out the yellow brick road?

I hope that you really enjoyed my Wizard of Oz Series! I had so much fun sharing ideas and inspirations from our unit.

Green Spectacles | Harrington HarmoniesHow we see things is so important! For example, one might be looking at the world through rose colored glasses. In Dorthy’s case she had to wear green spectacles so the brilliance of the emerald city wouldn’t blind her, or at least that’s what she believed until she found out Oz was a great humbug!

This activity is sure to be a hit; easy for you to put together and fun for the kiddos. So put on your green spectacles and see things Emerald City style![maxbutton id=”1″]

Green Spectacles: Wizard of Oz Activity | Harrington HarmoniesWhat you will need to make Green Spectacles:

Step by Step Green Spectacles:

  1.  Color your plastic wrap with the green marker enough to cover the paper roll. (During holiday time you may be able to find green plastic wrap. )
  2. Cut paper roll in half.
  3. Cover one end with green plastic and secure with rubber band.
  4. Repeat with other roll half.
  5. Now you should have 2 “green eye pieces” to look through.
  6. Staple them together in center like binoculars.
  7. Punch hole on each outer side to faster green pipe cleaners; one on each side
  8. Use pipe cleaners to fasten around head or ears to use your spectacles!

 Did you know?

Baum had a column called “Our Landlady” where he wrote sayings, puns, and jokes. For example, “How do you fool horses into eating saw dust during tough times? ~By putting green glasses on them to makes them think it’s grass!”

I wonder if this inspired the idea for green spectacles.

What do you think?

Now, what do you spy with your Emerald City eye?Make green spectacles | Harrington Harmonies
