Location and Mating Habit of the Black Capped Chickadee
The Black Capped Chickadee can be found in almost any mixed or deciduous forest of North America. It is often confused with the Carolina Chickadee because of its coloring, patterns and shape. Quite often the two will interbreed because they are so alike, in fact.
Chickadee’s Song
The call of a Black Capped Chickadee is bright. The call begins with a few gargles and afterward will continue with gentle song. Their call is composed of two or three notes, often called the “Hey Sweetie” call because of the way it sounds. However, there is some variation and style depending on the bird.
Black Capped Chickadee Diet
Their diet consists mainly of insects until the winter months when they nourish on seeds and berries. They remain in the trees to search for their food, unless they must make short flights to find it. They will nest in hallowed parts of trees or in bird boxes, sometimes they will also utilize other abandoned bird nests.
