Planning a Summer Garden Day #8: Favorite Flowers and Herbs

It’s a difficult choice when talking about my favorite flowers and herbs…because I love them all. So I will highlight a few of the ones I think you should consider when planning your garden because of their excellent qualities.

My Favorite Flowers and Herbs:

The name Marigold is “Mary’s gold” of Middle English origin.

Marigold-

These beautiful flowers deter insects and are easy to grow. They are a staple for my garden and I plant them along side my vegetables.

Basil-

I use Basil a lot! It grows well in warm places. It is very easy to grow and can be used in so many ways in my kitchen. It’s my favorite herb.

Petunia-

These flowers are terrific in hanging baskets and are very forgiving when not watered. They are a very hearty flower and add impressive color to any garden or landscape.

Love adding this herb to meat dishes, especially chicken.

Rosemary-

This herb is another must have. It has a wonderful fragrance and is also easy to grow. It will often last through a mild winter or return if well established every year!

Nasturtium-

This flower also deters insects in the garden. In addition you can eat the leafs which add really nice flavor to salads. They have a radish-like flavor.

Impatiens add great color to shady gardens.

Impatiens-

This is a really great flower for color especially for shady areas in your garden. They make nice borders for flowers beds.

Cilantro-

Oh how I love cilantro. It grows well in cool and warm weather; since I also cook with it and love the way it tastes it also made my top list. I use it in my recipes such as this Stuffed Acorn Squash recipe.
